GitInformed Privacy Policy

GitInformed is an AI-news tracking and editorial discovery tool. This policy explains what data we collect, how we use it, and how long we keep it.
1. Information We Collect
GitInformed may collect standard website analytics such as page views, device and browser information, referrers, and approximate region. Our analytics provider (PostHog) may use cookies or similar browser storage to distinguish visits; you can block or clear these in your browser at any time without losing access to the site. We do not require user accounts and do not sell personal information.
The stories we publish are built from publicly available news reporting and web sources. We store public article metadata such as headlines, publication names, links, and timestamps.
If you enable mobile notifications, the GitInformed app obtains an Expo push token for your device and stores that token, your platform, and your choices for daily-briefing and story alerts. The app keeps a copy of those choices on your device and sends the token and preferences to our Supabase database. A push token identifies an app installation for notification delivery; we do not use it for advertising or cross-app tracking.
2. How We Use Information
We use website analytics to understand site performance and usage. We use public article metadata to build, rank, and display AI and technology news stories on GitInformed.
We use notification tokens and preferences only to deliver the alerts you select, such as the daily briefing or newly published story alerts, and to maintain or remove that delivery registration.
3. Sharing
We do not sell personal data. Public story metadata may be shown on GitInformed as part of the editorial product. We use service providers for hosting, analytics, and database infrastructure.
For mobile notifications, Supabase stores the device token and preferences, Expo's push service routes each notification, and the applicable platform service delivers it: Google Firebase Cloud Messaging (FCM) on Android or Apple Push Notification service (APNs) on iOS. Those providers process the token and notification payload under their own privacy terms.
4. Data Retention
Public news records may be retained to preserve story context and history. Analytics data is retained according to the policies of the analytics provider and our operational needs.
We retain a push token and its notification preferences while that installation is registered for alerts. When you turn all alerts off, the app requests immediate deletion of that registration and retries if the request cannot be confirmed. Short-term delivery records may contain a token snapshot for retries and troubleshooting; terminal records and provider-invalid registrations are deleted within 30 days. A notification already accepted by a platform provider before opt-out cannot be recalled. You can contact us to request removal if you no longer have access to the app.
5. Children's Privacy
GitInformed is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided us personal information, contact us and we will delete it.
6. Changes to This Policy
We may update this policy as the product changes. We will post updates on this page and revise the "Last Updated" date; material changes to what we collect will be reflected here before they take effect.
